                        Over the last several years, the international broadcast marketplace for non-fiction film has grown tremendously. In that time, Solid Entertainment has earned a celebrated reputation providing award winning documentary programming.

                        Established in 1994, Solid Entertainment has grown to represent over 300 broadcast documentary titles. We distribute programs created by independent producers as well as network programs created for Discovery Channel, National Geographic Channel, HBO, Cinemax, PBS, TLC, Military Channel, Spike!, and The Travel Channel.

                        We continue to specialize in one-hour and feature length programming in the categories of current affairs, history, military, adventure, science, technology and wildlife.


                        Our Programming
                        At Solid Entertainment no two programs are alike. Our hallmark is quality programming, which our buyers expect. We offer an expansive and diverse catalog, which provides us with a unique opportunity to help fulfill broadcasters needs and remain open to a variety of filmmakers and subjects.

                        There are two elements essential in the design of programs we represent: global appeal and the strong narrative structure. The programs in Solid Entertainment’s catalog are selected first and foremost for their relevance to the worldwide broadcast market.

                        Other factors we consider when evaluating a program include:
                        • The power of the imagery.
                        • The sophistication of the editorial choices.
                        • The clarity of the story told.
                        • Appropriate use of the medium. We expect high production value when it is thematically necessary and forgive rougher images when they help support the story.
                        • Most importantly, we look for a distinct and captivating documentary that keeps the audience engaged and enlightened.


                        Our Relationships
                        Over the years Solid Entertainment has established a strong foundation of relationships with both producers and broadcasters. These relationships are the lifeblood of our business and we care for them as such. We represent the industry’s leading producers and consistently provide broadcasters with high caliber programming – relevant and timely.

                        Our marketing strategy includes attendance at the worldwide television festivals of NATPE, MIP-TV, MIPDOC, MIPCOM, HOT DOCS, IFP, the Realscreen Summit, and others. During these times we promote our films and their producers in the larger market setting, as well as during private meetings with broadcast executives. Buyers look to select companies to provide them with new programming. When we call on a buyer, or when they call on us, they expect the best. Market after market, year after year we deliver.

                        Marketing is a constant process. Before and after markets, and on a daily basis we engage in frequent dialogues via email, by telephone and in personal meetings with our clients. We continuously work to ensure that our broadcast clientele have every opportunity to screen and evaluate our films. Other marketing methods include advertising, press releases, producer interviews and direct e-mail placement.

                        Solid Entertainment Founder and President Richard Propper is the former President of the International Documentary Association, and executive producer of over twenty internationally broadcast documentary films. He is regularly invited to participate in panels and forums at the IFP market, Realscreen Summit, and the non-fiction certificate program at UCLA.  Richard is also the co-founder of WESTDOC: The West Coast Documentary and Reality Conference.  WESTDOC is a three-day event that brings together preeminent producers, directors, writers, network executives, agents and distributors for insightful and unique seminars, as well as networking opportunities.
