Eighty-nine year old Mehli Mehta is the father and mentor
of one of the worlds greatest conductors, Zubin Mehta.
Thirty-three years ago he created the American Youth Symphony
to prepare young musicians (16 - 25) to become the professional
musicians of tomorrow. Nearly 150 of his students have gone
on to play in world class orchestras throughout the world.
Maestro Mehli Mehta and the American Youth Symphony captures
the chemistry between old master and eager students - from
the struggle of first rehearsal through last minute backstage
preparation of stirring performances (with four camera coverage
in stereo). On camera performances and interviews with Midori,
Wynton Marsalis, Marvin Hamlisch, Zubin Mehta, Itzhak Perlman,
Yehudi Menuhim, and hosted by Walter Matthau.
