Tracing
his family history back 1000 years inside Iranian Kurdistan,
filmmaker Jahan Ardalan documented for eight years the
enigmatic ceremony of the Ghaderi order of Derwishes. Shrouded
in myth and folk tales, Ardalan reveals how this devout
sect works themselves into a trance-like state, enabling
them to drive daggers into their heads and swords into
their backs — all in the name of Allah.
